Founded in 1976, J Gomes’ first headquarters were located in Santo António, Covilhã. In 1999, the company moved its facilities to the Covilhã Industrial Park, where it remains to this day. Later, another unit was acquired in the town of Tortosendo, bringing the total to 7,000 square meters of covered area and around 30 employees. J Gomes began its activity by reusing waste left over from other factories in the Portuguese textile industry. In 2002, we set up a spinning line where we produce our own yarn from textile waste. The collection of textile waste is carried out by J Gomes’ vehicles, which transport discarded materials from the production processes of textile and garment companies, including yarns, fabrics, or knits. After collection, we sort all textile waste by quality and color. In this way, J Gomes immediately reduces its environmental impact, since there is no need to dye the yarn to achieve the desired color and material. Our yarns have the same range of applications as any other yarn, such as clothing, sweaters, socks, home textiles, blankets, bedspreads, rugs, among others.
