In the Covilhã region in 1970, an area that had been Portugal’s main textile hub since the 12th century, a local merchant decided to make a difference. At a time when sustainability was rarely discussed, Mr. Fernando Madeira chose to repurpose waste from textile and garment factories, transforming it into fibers—raw material for other industries. This initiative gave birth to Jomafil, a company committed to promoting sustainability within the textile industry. Over more than half a century of operation, Jomafil has also developed techniques to reuse textile waste in the production of felts, which are used in the mattress, automotive, construction, footwear, and other industries. This reinforces the company’s dedication to environmental sustainability through circular economy practices. From carefully selected and processed textile waste, Jomafil produces blankets that are transformed into felts of various compositions, weights, and functionalities, tailored for use across multiple industrial sectors.
