Content Claim Standard textile certification logo

Objective

The CCS (Content Claim Standard) provides companies with a tool to verify the content of specific input materials.

Each organization along the supply chain is verified by an independent third party. Any type of input material can be claimed. CCS serves as the foundation for all Textile Exchange chain of custody standards.

Description:

The CCS (Content Claim Standard) verifies the presence and quantity of a specific material in a final product. It tracks the flow of a material from its origin to the finished product and is certified by an accredited third party. This allows for transparent, consistent, comprehensive, and independent assessment and verification of material content claims in products.

This standard applies to ginning, spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing, printing, and sewing companies. CCS can be used as a B2B tool: it provides companies with a way to ensure they are selling quality products and receiving what they pay for, while also serving as the foundation for content claim standards developed around specific raw materials.

Differentiation in the global market is increasingly achieved through the demonstration of sustainable practices.

Textile Exchange is a global non-profit organization that aims to increase the adoption of preferred (sustainable) fibers and materials and enhance integrity throughout the value chain through standards and certifications, contributing to collective climate reduction goals and holistic positive impacts in fiber and raw material production.

Textile Exchange standards require that every stage of the supply chain be certified—from the raw material producer to the seller in the final B2B transaction—verifying sustainability claims from raw material to finished product.

The chain of custody ensures the identity of certified materials is preserved and tracks their movement through the supply chain to the final product.

Intertek, an accredited certification body for Textile Exchange, assists companies in obtaining CCS certification through:

  • Scope Certificate (SC): Document issued by the certification body listing products, manufacturing processes, and marketing activities, certifying that an organization is qualified to produce goods according to the standard. Valid for 1 year from the date of issuance.

  • Transaction Certificate (TC): Document issued by the certification body certifying that products sold by a certified organization to another comply with a specific standard. Certified organizations acquiring certified material must receive a valid TC for all purchased certified products.

CCS certification allows companies to assess and verify the materials in their products in a transparent, consistent, and independent manner.
