Objective

The RWS is a global voluntary standard that addresses the welfare of sheep and the lands where they graze. The RWS provides verification of practices taking place at the farm level, giving brands a clear solution that allows them to make claims about their wool origin with confidence.

The Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) offers an opportunity for farmers to demonstrate their best practices to the public and a means for brands and consumers to be assured that the wool products they buy and sell are aligned with their values.

The Responsible Wool Standard label ensures the welfare of sheep for wool production, guaranteeing:

  • Best practices in land management

  • Respect for the welfare of sheep (breeding, prohibition of mulesing, shearing, end of life)

  • Transparent communication

Farmers producing sheep wool, textile product manufacturers using wool, distributors, and brands can be certified by the RWS.
