Does chambray fabric shrink?
Chambray fabric shrinks 3-6% after the first wash when properly sanforised, and 8-12% if not sanforised. Portuguese mills routinely sanforise chambray to control shrinkage, particularly for shirt programmes where cuff and collar sizing matters. Pre-shrink specifications should always appear in the tech pack for chambray shirts and shirt-dresses.
